Special attention to HS Walsh and to Hermle. Note that their products look pricy, so you might want to start off with pine and an inexpensive insert as per Paul’s. Then redesign with special woods and fitting for the movements. If you do it, you’ll have something special.
It occurred to me that less expensive movements might be found in North America and shipping costs might still be low enough to keep the overall costs down. Therefore:

There are movement kits that use wood, but frankly if I were to put in the work, money and dedication, I’d want the clock to be accurate.
