I purchased a set of Grobet files over the Winter. Haven’t actually had occasion to use them yet 🙁
But they appear to be finely made, quality product. I got them based on their reputation which precedes them.
Plan on using them soon when I need to sharpen. So far, been doing more planing than anything else (bench build).
13 May 2014 at 6:06 pm #57087The saw files I buy from Classic Hand Tools here in the UK are made by Grobet, and are marked as being Swiss (‘F.L. GROBET SWISS 2nd CUT’). They’ve performed very well so far for sharpening saws, marking gauge pins, and a few other things. They still cut well and I’d certainly get more if I needed them – they’re not cheap but they seem to last, so worth the expense.
George.
13 May 2014 at 10:50 pm #57101I have received an email from Lie Nielson regarding these files here is the response I got.
Salko,
Grobet has two lines of files, one is made in India, and the other is made in Switzerland. Grobet USA carries mostly the Indian versions. We special order the Swiss ones, because we use them in our shop so we want the best possible option and we then pass that along to our customers as well. Any that you order from us will be the Swiss versions.
Cheers,
Deneb
Well this is a relief and definitely as I hoped for and some what expected from them. Yes we all had our doubts but LN is on the ball they cannot allow inferior products to reach their shelves since they are the Rolls Royce of quality workmanship.
13 May 2014 at 11:01 pm #57104Salko glade you got the answer you were looking for.
When you get your saw files sharpen your saws and enjoy and make some saw dust thats what we do. 😉13 May 2014 at 11:04 pm #57105Absolutely brother and I just learned that LN sells Somax Saw Sets yet I completely missed it on their website.
14 May 2014 at 9:09 am #57111Your very much welcome brother and dust and dusted with the credit card the culprit happens to be Lee Valley. When I placed an order with them they happen to have a hick up in their system and charged my card 6 times. They apologised and should refund my card within 48hrs. Till then I’m maxed out. Scary thing this bloody credit card.
14 May 2014 at 10:45 am #57112Salko Sorry to here about the problem you have with your card, very stressful and frustrating
I’m surprised the bank/card company didn’t treat this as a ‘red-flag’ and either decline the payment, or call you to confirm this transaction was genuine. Multiple payments of the same amount is suspicious and most companies would act on it. At least you’re fully protected when it comes to credit-cards.
14 May 2014 at 12:51 pm #57116That’s a very good point you have raised something I will take it up with them.
