I’ve recently bought an old Woden No4 in need of renovation. I’ve removed the brass nut on top of the rear handle and expected the handle to slide up and off the long threaded bolt. The handle is loose but won’t lift up off the bolt. It feels as if something is blocking the way.
Does anyone know the correct way to remove this handle?
It should just pull up.
Sometimes there is a washer that could have tilted made hole elliptical so it would make it stop from sliding up.
Maybe the bolt is slightly bent.
Dose handle look like it has or had a crack in it. It may have been repaired with glue of some sort and that would make it hard to remove.
Hi Mark,
Thanks for your input. Yes it should just pull up. Same design as my Stanley’s. There is no washer underneath the top nut as there is on my Stanley No4 so that’s not the issue. I don’t think the bolt is bent as tension would increase incrementally. This just stops suddenly after about 0.5 cm as though it has come up against something. Handle is sound, the plane has had little use.
