    Hi,

Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy a block of oak (or similar) wood for making the mallet as in Paul’s video?

I’ve been scouring ebay but no one seems to advertise blocks big enough. It’s either too small, or railway sleeper sized!

    Thanks

    Darren.

I found some nice pieces on Ebay a while back. I’ve messaged you a link to the seller.

    Hello Darren,

No problem. Keep an eye on his ebay shop, I got some nice pieces of Elm, Hornbeam and Laburnum which have made great mallet heads.
I really enjoyed that project, that’s why all my family are getting a mallet each for Christmas this year!

    Cheers, Jim.

Just an idea: Look for larger pieces of firewood?

I took apart a shipping pallet to get this wood. It is some of the hardest I’ve ever encountered – you can pound nails with it.

Jim: thanks for the link, I got a nice piece of oak that will make a couple of mallets at least!

Reno / Dieter: thanks for the posts!

    Regards

    Darren.
