Ok, it took an inordinate amount of time to shape the blade for this rabbet plane, but its done. I’ve never used this type of plane so I have nothing to compare it to but it works very well. It will be even better once the blade is hardened. To use the plane I made a gauge line, tipped the edge of the plane into the gauge line and made a couple of light passes. Then I squared up the plane and hogged off the wood. The resulting rabbet was true and square. Its a keeper. Of course I had to add some decoration and my signature. This could become addictive.

Thanks for taking a look and thank you to @Paul-Sellers for this series.Attachments:

I am getting behind on my projects, I am trying to get my shed completed, but the weather has really slowed me down. Seeing your projects is just making me more anxious to get back in the shop, it keeps me motivated on these sub-freezing days to get out there and finish my shed, lol.
27 January 2014 at 4:52 am #26619Thanks Steve. This winter has been brutal. I hope that you can get your shed up sooner than later.
27 January 2014 at 8:01 pm #26672Greg fantastic, I feel sure it can not be much longer before you announce you have become a full time woodworker.
27 January 2014 at 8:46 pm #26681Thanks guys…
David I would love to work wood full time but as yet do not see the path to make it happen.
Mark, my grandfather worked as a pipe fitter and had to carry his own tools from job to job. He painted all of them lime green to prevent loss/theft. I guess my decorations are my version of lime green paint. P.S. I was going to make the wedge for the rabbet plane out of cocabola but didn’t have a piece big enough. I’m going to keep an eye on the cut off bin at Woodcraft for another piece.27 January 2014 at 11:21 pm #26701fantastic work Greg keep this pace up and you’ll be a full time woodworker in no time, planes like your rabbet plane are selling on a uk plane makers site for £200 +, ok he’s got years of experiance but you are well on the way well done.
