Ok bench is all glued up mortice and tenon joints are drawboard, and even without the aprons it feels rock solid. I still have the top to fasten down, but I cant do that till I get my vice. First time I have made a bench, overall I’m quit pleased how It’s turned out.

Are you going to add the adjustable bench stops? Are those slots I see down the middle for removable stops? Again…bench is really looking good.
Gregory…..thanks buddy. The centre section can be removed completely, it is two complete lengths, with shorter lengths glued in place. Instead of a tool well which I would fill with rubbish, you can drop your saws, chisels, whatever in the slots. Or you can remove it to clamp peaces or stops as you wish. I will be adding an adjustable planing stop to the left end of the bench.
I will be fitting a front and tail vice, then a row of dog holes.
Anonymous17 February 2013 at 5:11 pm #8086Great looking bench Ken. It’s obvious you’ve put a lot of thought into things, and it looks great. I like the idea of slots in the bench top. My well does fill up with crud pretty quick. I’m not unhappy with it, because it does keep the tools from hitting the floor. But it’s easier just to sweep your arm across the bench to clear shavings, so I may fill in the well and add a slotted tool holder along the back apron, as you’ve done in the center.
Thanks Jeff, It’s amazing the amount of tools that you end up with even on a small project. You put them in the well, they get covered in shavings and whatever, I would spend half my time looking for them. HaHa
I’m not adding a bottom shelf, as I would just fill that with rubbish also, and again it would just get full of shavings and sawdust 😉
