I used wickes whitewood, based the design on Pauls bookcase but will use the shelves as storage space for bathroom toiletries.

This was made from Red Alder from a friends yard. It’s 4 feet by 6 feet, and was a bit more challenging than I expected to get everything glued up quickly. I’m very please with how it all worked out in the end, though.

Dimensions 116cmx70cm (sides, top slightly wider), 30 cm. 17 mm pine preplaned and glued (left over from a friend). Panels of sides slightly sloped in upper part (looks more elegant). Consider to make layout for through tenons before sloping (otherwise make layout from backside). Stopped tenons at bottom. Considered but resisted to make shaker half moons at the bottom sides. Tried milk paint for first time. Found 50:50 powder to water is too thick. Made 50:70 roughly. After painting with kids hand sanded with 500 grit. Applied wax with fine steel wool. Glue up with was tricky as many long clamps needed. Belts maybe an alternative. Highly recommended to have two people for glue up … Cheers Christian

Redwood pine bookcase, water based stain. The joinery on the outside frame is mostly housing dados, with a few wedged tenons. The inner elements are joined with tapered interlocking housind dados, as in the “Leaning wall shelf”. Sliding doors with wooden tongue and groove, one empty space to choose for each row giving 81 different arrangements. I have to say once again that the poor man’s rebate plane and the not so poor man’s router are great tools! I used them a lot in this project.
