Paul’s router plane made in 2 hours from a bit of 3/8 Victorian carbon steel with sundries turned and knurled on the lathe. some off cuts.

White oak, beech handles. I’ve given it an elongated mouth, and the tension bar is a piece of brass.

Paul’s router plane, made out of scrapwood, possibly mahogany as it comes from a table. A few month’s ago I wouldn’t have thought I could make such a tool..
Router Plane by Chris Harmston
Sapele pomelle. No handles. O1 steel (Oil Quench. Iron did warp slightly.). Extra long reach for those occasional deep needs.

Made two Paul Sellers router planes. What i really love about them is that they are far simpler to set up compared to their metal counterparts. If the cutter is not cutting parallel to the surface is just a case of pressing a little harder on one side of the honing guide. No messing about with taping up the sole of the plane to take it to the diamond stones etc. They work so well I might sell my metal ones – Thank you Paul for this wonderful gift to the woodworking community.

Router plane in birch and walnut. Paul’s impeccable timing saved me spending $170 or more on a new one, and I get the satisfaction of having made it!

I used off cuts of Beech, left over from another project, which I bought from the Oxford Wood Recycling centre. The base is slightly under thickness at 7/8″. The three notches for the depth adjuster wheel were the result of a mistake I made, but does ensure the blade can be fully retracted. Adjuster wheel notches are wider than on Pauls drawings to accommodate my thicker adjuster wheel. It all works perfectly – thank you Paul!

my router plane made with black limba and oak knobs
Router Plane by Stefano Passiglia
Router plane based on Paul Sellers design. The body is beech, I had a scrap 10x100mm board and I laminated three pieces for the body and two pieces for the iron holder. Iron is C45 steel, hardened and tempered. Kitchen knobs are beech too. Thumb wheels were the most difficult parts to source, but I think they match really well the shellac finish.
Wooden Router Plane by Becky B’s Dad
Wooden router plane made from ironwood. My dad made the plane and the metal parts. The hanger bolts are the only store bought parts. I printed the plans from the site and showed them to my dad. He made it from the plans and gave it to me. The only bought parts were the hanger bolts. He fabricated the metal and brass parts.
Router Plane by Matt Sims
Made from reclaimed wood… Body in meranti, knobs from palletwood. (I’m shortly to inherit a lathe so I’ll turn some better knobs then!). Cutting iron “only” 8mm wide, as that was the only suitable stock I could source, though it is 10mm deep. Finished in shellac and wax.
Router Plane by Paul Mumford
The timber is cherry sourced from a tree in my own yard that was lost to drought. The knobs are a standard pine cupboard knob but have a cherry base to raise them to height. the metal work is not pretty but it is accurate. An enjoyable project made better by the fact that is great to use.

Made a router plane using Paul’s videos of the same. Wood used is teak and the knobs are also handmade. It took time as I had to source the hardware to India from UK. Loved making it, one of my most satisfying projects

Router Plane – Enjoying my progress – A “PT” (Paul and Team) Thanks. Router Plane – Bubinga (?) , HSS 3/8 chisel, retainer bar – a repurposed gun rack holder & Awaiting parts. Paul appreciate technique reminders and your narration pauses – Keeps me thinking. My Traveling Joiner’s Box is almost ready for shellac. My router took a few material turns and is currently an uncoated great edition. HSS nothing’s easily, but an angle grinder kept me grinning. Thanks

The body of the plane is made from local Black Wattle and the knobs turned from another local wattle, both rescued from the wood chipper. The blade was hand forged from a railway clip and all threaded knobs turned on the lathe.

My (first) router plane made following Paul’s Router Plane model. I’ve made it from regular beech (scrap wood), entirely by hand except the handles, wich have been made using my drill as an improvised lathe. Blade is made in HSS steel, using a Dremel for making the shape. Next one will be made from O1 steel, I hope. It has been very interesting and I can’t wait to make t he next one.

Router planes for my sons. Base from very solid hardwood and handle made following plane knob construction
Router Plane by Simon Adams
Great project; I enjoyed it thoroughly, start to finish! Made from rough sawn Ash, resawn and dimensioned with hand tools only, with turned Ash knobs. I was going to do it in Beech, but I liked the colour contrast of the sap/heartwood in the chunk of Ash I had so I decided to go with that. I think the Ash handles may not be as comfy as a closer grained wood, but I didn’t want to waste my offcuts!

Paul Sellars Routers. All routers are made from beech with cherry handles. The two regular ones are exactly as Paul Sellars design using the PS kits. The others are smaller as a replacement for my 722 routers. They use 7mm cutters and M5 hardware. The base is 200mm wide and 18mm thick. I made one of the latter ones very short at the front so the cutter is level with the front of the router at 3mm depth. I am having to replace cheap nasty hinges in my house and needed to be able to use my router right up to the door jamb. They are perfect for this and I’ve already used them several times. Far better than paring the recess.

Router Plane by Tobias Bauer
I made the body from an unknown hardwood (African, maybe Sipo or Sapelli?) I received as a gift from a friendly carpenter. I rasped and filed the handles by hand from a large branch of hornbeam. Finished with clear shellac, metal pieces from Paul’s kit. It works flawlessly and more than matches my Veritas router plane.

The Paul Sellers Router Plane: base is hickory, upstand is rock maple, handles are ash pieces that came from a tour at the Louisville Slugger Factory.
Router Plane by Steve Mees
Made from beech. Handles a mix of beech and (I think) walnut as the bought ones I tried first didn’t work. Handles are a bit rough looking, but are comfortable and plane works perfectly. Thank you for the metal kit Paul.

With my big hands I do not needs knobs, so I kept the design minimalistic. Also made them “open” so you can see what you’re doing! 🙂

Had the parts for months but just got round to making Paul’s router plane. There must be millions in circulation by now 🙂
