Smokehouse by Cyril Le Guienne
Here’s a piece mostly based upon Seller’s home bedside cabinet’s design. It’s made of pine, spruce and plywood. Except it’s not a bedside cabinet…but a smokehouse! The drawer is located at the bottom to receive the smoke generator in order to ease cleaning operations after use.
canoe (Featherweight Boatbuilding by Mac Mccarthy) by thiel2
The hull was built of pine, the trim and seat of red oak, handle is mostly hickory, and the storage compartments were of all three. This is where I stretched the limits of my machines and began to realize they could not provide me the level of craftsmanship I desired in my work. Woodworking Masterclasses with Paul Sellers has lifted me over that hump. With his methods using sharp irons and traditional skills you soon become the crafts person of your project. The result of your work then, only comes from the intentional actions of your trained body and creative mind.

WALLCLOCK BY SALKO SAFIC
Islamic Prayer Times Wall Clock
COMPUTER DESK BY NIKOND80
I made this Desk basing it on various MasterClass projects; tool cabinet drawers, occasional table and the craftsmen lamp. The desk is made from White Oak with Sapele addded to the handles. I had to make the legs out of White Ash and then laminate the Oak on top as I didn’t have any Oak thick enough – I based them on the Stickley method. This is the first project I’ve done that is my design.
COFFEE TABLE BY JOHNXMAN
I modified the coffee table project to be taller and narrower, and left out the magazine rack. This table was designed to hold a statue. Material is walnut with 4 coats of garnet shellac and paste wax on the top. the upper tenons were designed as mitred tenons that meet each other within the leg.

Hillbilly Tansu by Greg Merritt

Jewelry Storage Mirror by AnthonyH
My wife originally asked for a Full-length mirror, but I also wanted to build her a jewelry box, so I decided to combine the two. Finished the project the week of Christmas. It wasn’t a surprise, but she is grateful nonetheless. It’s an original design with cues from a few products I found surfing the web. The 1/8”-thick earring rack is something I came up with because a few of my wife’s earrings won’t fit over the common rack’s top slot and I thought it was an inconvenience to remove the backing just to mount it through a whole, so the apostrophe shape seemed like the best remedy. The ring storage is 1/8”-thick, dovetailed mahogany box (11-7/8”L x 3-3/4”W x 1-1/8”D) with 1/8”thick plywood bottom. It is stained with General Finishes Black Gel Stain and finished with three coats of Zinsser SealCoat. The foam ring-holding insert is folded over and glued then covered with Rockler’s adhesive velvet sheets. It is affixed to the case back with brass screws. The bracelet holders were purchased from Amazon. I cut of the base and shortened the stem. A 1-5/8” stainless steel screw affixes it to the case back. The case is made from 13/16”-thick mahogany and measures 65”H x 21”W x 4-1/2”T. The corners are dovetailed (in the wrong direction…’live and learn’) and the 1/2” mahogany plywood back-panel is screwed into its rabbeted back. The inner mirror (12” x 12”) has mitered corners and is also made from mahogany. The purpose of it is so my wife doesn’t have to close the door each time when selecting a necklace or earrings. It has proved to be a good idea. The shelves are all glued into stopped dados and the center shelf provides structural strength to hold the case sides in place. The space at the bottom is purposely left open. I will add a feature there in the future once the need arrises. It could be tilt-out bins (think potato bins), drawers or something else. The mahogany door is mortice and tenoned using Freud 99-761 Ogee Rail & Stile Bits and 54-760 Glass Panel Door Cutter. I used these bits to create 2” tenon and chopped the mortice by hand. The mirrors are 1/4” thick and very heavy so I though a 2”+ tenon was warranted. The door attaches to the case using Rockler’s 15in-lb torsion hinges. I bought a heavier set first but they were extremely stiff. I can’t see ever needing more than 15in-lbs for most woodworking projects. The 45 necklace holders are 1-3/4” Shaker Pegs from Lee Valley. They finished with General Finishes Java Gel Stain and three coats of Deft Satin spray Lacquer. Their tenons are glued into mortices on mahogany strips (18”L x 1”W x 1/”T). The six strip affix to the frame to hold the 1/4” mahogany plywood mirror backer in place with brass screws. The legs are also made from mahogany but they were from a different tree and much lighter than the feet and case (also true of the mirror and earring holders). They were stained with General Finishes CandleLite Gel Stain. The legs have double draw-bore (white oak dowels) tenons into the feet. The legs attach to the case using Lee Valley’s Chavel Bolts. All the corners where eased using a plane and sanded to 180 grit. The project was finished with three coats of SealCoat shellac and three applications of Minwax pastewax using 0000 steel wool. This project was a pleasure to work on and gives an extra sense of accomplishment knowing it was my design. This is my first large project without outside plans. I hope it inspires others to venture outside the box and develop your design skill.

not-so-poorman’s router plane by Richard Groomer
I found a router plane blade by Ulmia in my used hardware store. Because the blade is 5.6mm thick X14mm wide I cut and filed a groove to fit the blade and captured the blade with an electric guitar cover plate. To tighten the blade I have a brass screw and thumbscrew. I want to cut the screw and peen it over the thumbscrew. Any suggestions out there on how to do this? I used 2 pieces of scrap wood for the body. Ash and cherry. I have found ash to be difficult to work with because it splinters easily.

Wooden Jointer Plane by Chris Cooper
Unable to match Paul’s skill in squaring up edges, I built a jointer-length plane (18 inches) out of Padauk and a Hock plane blade, then attached a white oak fence using screw knobs and brass screw inserts. After building this, I got rid of my Delta benchtop jointer. It turns out this is easier to use than the machine and more consistent. It has been indispensable; I use it constantly.

Letter Box by Nikola Maoduš
This is my first, somewhat more complex project and I made it for my home. The idea was to make a letterbox that will receive A4 format letters and smaller packages. As it is installed in the fence the opening for insertion of mail is located in the front and the door at the back is used for picking up the mail. The wood used is a fir, treated with impregnation coating and three layers of wood-stain resistant to UV light spectrum. The inscription and the picture were printed on the waxed paper and transferred to the wood before the staining. The letter box was made by hand tools only. If anyone is interested in more details (joints, transfer of the printed letters and image, pictures…) or the performance of the letter box, please, feel free to ask and I’ll be glad to answer the questions. The transfer of the letters gave some troubles, but eventually it played out really well.

Changing Table by Sky Valley Studios – DA
For this custom heirloom piece I used mahogany stained a dark chocolate brown to match an existing crib. The style is a combination of Craftsman mixed with a heavy one-piece crest. To make the crest, a 12 degree arc defines the lines. The profile was routed on a table to achieve the same profile as the crib’s rail. The joinery was achieved using a Festool Domino, but mortise and tenon could also be a good option. Each of the shelves are 1/4″ mahogany plywood edged with solid mahogany. Severa

Lapstrake Canoe by Louye2
This is a 14 foot canoe made from okoume marine plywood and mahogany. It is a modified reproduction of a design by Henry Rushton – a canoe builder who lived in Canton, New York in the late 1880’s. He was America’s premier builder of double-paddle canoes which were very popular at the time. These canoes are usually propelled using a kayak paddle, but they can also be sailed. Mr. Rushton was known for his extremely lightweight and durable canoes some of which weighed about 10 pounds. My canoe weighs only 50 pounds and could be built even lighter if spruce were substituted for the mahogany.

Overhangs set up plane irons for eclipse. Cutouts do same for chisels. Two ends provide primary and secondary bevel. Leather strop stored inside.
Square Awl by Dave Robbie
I got the idea after seeing an awl that Paul had. I made the handle out of a 1.25″ dowel that I planed to 8 sides then turned on my mini lathe. I made the ferrule from a brass fitting and the square awl from a 3.5″ hardened masonry nail. I first annealed the nail, then shaped it with files and sandpaper. I then hardened in with oil quenching and then tempered at 400F in a toaster oven. To get the name like Paul had on his handle, I just laser printed out my name in mirror image then placed on a wetted side with clear waterbased polyurethane. I let dry then put water on it and lightly rubbed the paper off leaving the name.

Planter Stands by Ian Hemphill
I built these two planter stands as a housewarming gift for my elder daughter, to celebrate their purchase of their first apartment. Here in Vancouver, that’s quite an accomplishment. Needed something small but personal. These are cherry, mortise and tenon legs and a half-lap in the crosspiece. Thanks for teaching me how to do these things, Paul!
Gift Box by Ian Hemphill
After setting up my bandsaw for recutting, I ended up with a large stack of nice thin maple blanks just right for some small-box dovetailing practice. So I thought I’d combine that with the Christmas season and make some gift boxes to hold our homemade jams and dried herbs from our garden. Made seven boxes, with dovetailed corners, a shaped front and an inset bottom. Got lot of practice with some useful techniques from Paul’s videos, and some nice prezzies as a bonus. Thanks for all the inspiration, Paul!

I used a combination of construction techniques from Paul’s Tool Chest as well as several housing dados for the interior. Thanks Paul! I couldn’t have done it without you. It is made from red oak which has been stained with a final finish of shellac

Long Board by John Moore
My 17 year old daughter wanted a long board, so I suggested that we should just make one. We bought rough sawn lumber, using hand tools we cut, planed, and glue-up an over sized panel. Then finished the final shaped with chisels, #4 smoothing plane (for the round overs), and scrapers. We used shellac to seal the hickory, mahogany, and basswood. Then used oil-based out door poly to add protection.

Spoons for gifts by nljs
Made from English Oak
Spoonology by Gavin Sykes
The timber is Coastal Sheoak, native to Western Australia , the piece being branch material from a tree I felled in a customers backyard that was set aside to air dry for later use. The main trunk I think will prove to have some very nice material for larger projects. The grain is quite dense and a little interlocking but rewarding with its figure. The only gouge I had at hand was about seven mm but being inspired I made do and shaped a scraper from a piece of offcut construction grade steel which worked surprisingly well. I experimented with the handle to see if something more ergonomic for an elderly person would make any difference, so far the response has been positive.

Hand Turned Cherry Lamp by Aaron Thomas
I am a disabled United States Marine Corps combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and have found woodworking as a means of therapy and recovery. Several years ago I became extremely interested in woodturning in addition to flatwork and started to make wooden lamps on the only lathe I could afford, a Harbor Freight 12″ x 36″ wood lathe. Here, I have turned a lamp out of solid cherry and outfitted it with solid brass hardware. I’ve never been able to sell any of my lamps but I still make them nonetheless. In 2009 I lost everything because of my service but woodworking is slowly helping me to regain dignity and my own humanity. I hope others will enjoy my labor of love.

This is the last of the Fijian Kauri I had, I placed the hinges on the outside as they were too large to be recessed in on the insiide. Unfortunately I can only post one pic of it but it has a back door. Hope you like it.
Dressing Table with mirror by Salko
I used Radiata Pine typical home centre lumber, the top edge glued and morrtise and tenons throughout. Finally I finished it off with a Rose Mahogany spirit stain applied with a rag and lastly a few coats of satin varnish. Actually it turned out more like an eggshell than satin isomething you’d get out of minwax antique oil but thicker. Anyway this was a gift to my wife for her 23rd birthday.. Unfortunately I just can’t get a better pic.

House Number Plaque by Colin Whiting
This is a house number plaque made for my girlfriend’s house, which is my first serious attempt at doing a mostly hand tools only woodworking project. The lighter coloured wood was recovered from a pallet, which I think is redwood, the edging and characters are made from mahogany. The lighter wood section is 3 pieces edge jointed together, with the mahogany border rebated, mitred and glued in place. The characters where made from the same piece of mahogany as the edging and were cut out using a scroll saw, hand finished and glued in place. Due to it being located outside it was finished with 3 generous coats of Danish Oil and mounted using keyhole plates rebated into the back.
