I reshaped the iron, much better, I also made the relief deeper, shavings still clog up a little but it is working more like a plane now than a scraper, going to heat the iron next.
Need some oil, can motorcycle oil be used, how about a wood burning stove to heat the iron ?
Hi Debra ran into a few problems,
I made some mods to it, but the throat is too large where the blade sticks out of the sole,
and the shavings are getting stuck in there, also I think the iron is too straight across the middle,
the bevel is good, easy to sharpen Just have to get more accurate with the shape.
Here are some pics.

[quote quote=313758]Hi there,
I’ve been working on my first ever mortise and tennon. I’ve watched lots of Paul’s videos and it looks as if the chisel glides into the wood like butter. I am working with some sort of pine that’s quite old. I’ve sharpened my chisels on oil stones and stropped – to a point where I feel it’s pretty sharp.

I was struggling with pushing through the wood instead of cutting it, couldnt understand it. I rounded the camber too much, had micro bevels on one or two chisels, and I used windshield washer fluid on my arkansas stones, I think the chemicals in…[Read more]

Just making wood shavings and loving it,
The box has a different layout for each corner, all four are different.
Took me a while to figure out how to layout, starting with the pins, I like making the pin board first,
If you look closely, you can see I have one side with 1/2 pins and the other starts with a 1/2 tail.
Is there a right…[Read more]
