It arrived! Disregard last question. As always, WWMC/Rokesmith shine!
22 October 2021 at 1:44 pm #733657I purchased my copy on Rokesmith. Is there any way to track the order? I have the number but would love to be able to track it’s progress to me across the pond.

11 January 2021 at 12:45 am #693857Sometimes fortune shines on the diligent. Yesterday on our way home from the shop where I found the plane, we noticed another flea mall. It was too late to stop yesterday but after we cleaned up the house today, we decided to give it a go. It was only an hour away. I kid you not… the very first plane I saw was in horrible shape. it was missing the knob, the tote was split into but it was an otherwise complete Stanley bailey No. 4. It looked awfully familiar. On a chance I made an offer for it of $8. It was priced higher. The vendor accepted my offer. Tonight when I got it home and cleaned it up, it was a Stanley Bailey No. 4 type 6! The exact same as the one I was missing parts from. This one had every part I needed to complete the other. So for $23 I now have all of the parts to restore a 130 year old smoothing plane.
That makes my day.

P.S. Thanks for all the suggestions for parts. I’m sure this won’t be my last restoration project. God bless.
25 August 2020 at 12:08 pm #675465I am going to replace the whole frog. Just as an fyi, I wasn’t talking about removing the lever from my other 5c frog and putting onto the broken one. I was talking about trying to find one off ebay or on another flea mall damaged plane. Anyhoo, I’d rather go the simple route. Plenty of broken planes out there with undamaged frogs.
Thanks!
Joey.13 July 2020 at 3:35 pm #669477Yes I’m definitely going to have to address the lighting. Right now its a center room ceiling fan, totally inadequate even with two full windows of natural light. We finished the painting this weekend and it turned out really well. We just used an un-tinted white base. It really lightened up the room. (the old paint was a medium pastel blue!!!)
I have a couple of small articulated LED lights to clamp to the work bench but shop lighting overhead would be much better.
Really the last thing I need to decide is what to do with the empty wall. I’ve been looking at videos for small shop organization. I like the “Idea” of French cleats but maybe not necessarily going all out. I have several 1/8 inch thick Aluminum 90 degree bends I can adapt for a faux cleat approach. Useful for hanging clamps and other odds and end tools that I don’t want to have to drag out of the tool box or just have laying around on the bench all the time. We shall see.
Thanks again for the replies. Once I get things squared away I’ll post before and after pictures.

10 July 2020 at 4:57 pm #669086Thanks for the replies. I got my wife involved (she’s really good at home layout/organization) and we decided to just eat the elephant one bite at a time. She got me some new shades for the windows and we started by painting the walls. We’re half way done with that. Once the walls are done we’re going to stain the small workbench and put up the rest of the shelving to organize things.
It’s a small step but I’m moving forward. Now if only I could find a good used Saw Set like Paul recommends. You’d think such a basic and essential tool would be easier to find.
Thanks all. Once I’m not embarrassed by the mess I’ll post some pictures to show our progress.

7 December 2019 at 12:08 am #634146Thank you Mike. I took a look at the Rikon 10-306 deluxe. That looks perfect for my needs.
Take care all!
