With the rough boards planed and laminated into panels, we clean up the surfaces and prepare them for the joinery. Paul has a stopped and stepped housing dado to form each corner. This makes for a perfectly fitting joint, even if we have a slight variance in the thickness of the inset piece due to hand planing. Each step Paul takes ensures that the joint lines sit fully and have the integrity of good joinery. The methods and techniques Paul uses may not be so traditional, yet the outcome always matches the quality we assume of craftsmen of old. This work is as enjoyable as it is practical. Thanks Paul for another enjoyable episode. They make squares with a 24” beam. Do you use a rafter square (not sure proper name) because it is a commonly available more affordable option?
