Part of woodworking is to simplify the methods and techniques we use with common-sense solutions using a few quite ordinary hand tools. Getting mastery to pass on to you means reaching back into the archives of Paul’s mind to show you what works: Here we go! Did you know that you do not have to buy a lathe and a handful of turning gouges and chisels to make a perfectly good table or chair leg that’s simple, elegant, and refined in any wood you care to choose? This is my method – a spokeshave and a bench plane, a saw and a coin to draw round, and, Hey, presto! You just made a table leg with your own hands, and you did not need to buy anything more than you already have.
Thanks Paul. I really like the technique you used to obtain the angle. I think you showed something similar for drilling a right angle on a short video but I didn’t make the connection to try it here. I’ve seen lasers used, two bevels, and resultant angles used to obtain drilled holes for “legs.” Your method is very simple.
Love it. The methods for boring the at the proper angle and for creating the legs were great.
