The purpose of developing this clock is to teach you how to make an alternative floating panel with a minimalist look, rather than a raised panel. There is no doubt that this is more complicated, but it is useful knowledge to own, and then too is the training on how to do it using only hand tools. In this episode, there are several techniques you will not have seen in my videos or elsewhere before today. It shows the adaptability of hand tools to do what seems impossible: Deep grooves with a handsaw? Fitting grooves to grooves with tongues to tongues? Amazing!

Once again, I want to express my appreciation for the amazing camera work that really shows what Paul is doing. This team is absolutely brilliant!
I am finding this operation to make a floating front panel fascinating. In my woodworking, using glued up panels usually results in cupping, but the hidden groove in Paul’s construction should keep the front face of the clock flat. I also noticed the different chiseling techniques depending on whether the groove is in long grain or end grain. Brilliant craftmanship accomplished using no power tools.
