Many more magnificent makers have, this March, submitted several sensational pictures of their pieces completed by hand. Thanks go to tobiasbilger, canito79, Matthew Wiles, Ged, Tom Benim and Jim Braun. It’s a treat to see these!

I simply built the bench Paul Sellers showed in the videos. For the tabletop i used spruce/fir 8cm by 8cm. The aprons and wellboard are same wood but 4cm by 8cm. The bench is 220cm long. For the legs i used 10cm by 10cm spruce/fir. The bench is also mobile as Paul’s is, just 12 screws hold it together. My working height is 103 cm as I am 183cm tall.
Dyed curly maple, tung oil, shellac top coat
Dovetail box made from yellow pine with shellac finish.
Old pine floor boards, as Paul’s tutorial except no decorative studs. Shellac and wax polish finish
Shaker Style Table by Tom Benim
I actually made this table at the Fundamentals Course I took in Texas in the early 2000s! But just finished it two years ago after retiring. It is in walnut with wiping poly varnish.
Walnut and Cherry Breadboard End Cutting Board, mineral oil finish 9″ X 16″ X 1.5″
Walnut, finished with wiping varnish. This is a take on the open top dovetail box, modified with a lower opening for iPad, a clamp on rear to attach to music stand, and giftee’s initials and bass clef symbol carved on bottom. To be used to hold small items during practice sessions.
Curly maple finished with dye, wiping varnish, wax. This project taught me a lot about working with difficult wood gain. Sharpen, sharpen, sharpen, and use scrapers!

Just over five years ago Paul and I decided to start this site. It was the 1st November 2012 that Paul posted our announcement of the site, precisely five years ago today! To celebrate, we are releasing a new video series on bench building. You can see the introduction here. This is a free project…

We are in the 12th year of Woodworking Masterclasses and we are about to reach the 100th Project! During this time we have added to the premium membership videos and free membership offering and have built up a large video library of projects, tools and techniques. Creating free content and adding to the free portion…
It is my great pleasure to once more present to you an assortment of images that have been sent in by our ever-productive woodworking community. Enjoy!
Many thanks to all 1058 of you who took part in our recent survey asking ‘Which of these best describes your space?’. The results are in and make for some interesting reading (if you like stats!).
It’s been a year It was a year today that I posted the first video to this website. It wasn’t a particularly new venture, in many ways it was quite an old one. Paul, my dad, has been teaching woodworking for decades. The classes that we were booking were filling and much of the interest…
