This plane was one of the many things I was given last year, and I have no idea what it is.
As first I just thought it was a moulding plane, but then I noticed it had a fence and depth stop at one point. You can just barely make out “Sandusky Tool Co” and “51” stamped on the back. There is no line that says what pitch to hold it at when using it – so I presume it is straight up and down.
Any ideas?
I thought it was maybe a beading plane, but the profile of the iron doesn’t look like the other beading plane I have. Also the holes for the fence and depth stop throw mw
This site ( http://www.sanduskyplanes.com/category/sandusky-planes-by-number/ ) lists the #51 as a center bead plane (double). I’m pretty sure I’ve seen PDFs of old Sandusky catalogs but didn’t look for one now to confirm this assignment.
See p.63 at this link for an example of using a center bead to make the moulding shown in figure 80 which has three parallel beads in the middle.
