Steve, John thanks.
This is the only time I’ve used bubinga. Its heavy and hard. It shapes and cuts about the same as white oak. There were a couple of pockets of crumbly wood though. They were small but I can see where they could be really troublesome in case work.
I have now got a walking stick on the go Mahogany handle and an oak shaft. The shaft I made from a piece of sawn oak about 4″ wide by 40″ long by about 1 3/8″ thick, I really struggled to get it down to 7/8 ” thick, I tried every plane I have but could not get any to take a good shaving, this is the first time I have not started with planed timber, is it possible to just get a pice of wood that will not plane?
