I have a thought in the back of my head of building a basic workbench (no wellboard or woodworking vise) with a back to it for pegboard to hold some tools and a miniature top-mounted bench vise.
My daughter just turned 6, so she’s not quite ready for real woodworking, but she is ready for basic hand tools stuff and quite excited about the prospect. So is her daddy!
Basically a children’s table with a few shelves below the bench and hinged doors, and a back for pegboard to hang some properly sized hand tools.
There’s a place online that sells some specialized hand tools for small hands. I’d give the link but I don’t recall the forums rules about external sites and such. Just google “for small hands” and find the woodworking section. Lots of cool stuff.
Anyway, I may glue and screw this together without joinery.
Reason being, I’m just learning joinery myself and more importantly, she’s going to get taller and this thing is going to get rebuilt probably 3-4 times before she’s in her teens (if she still is interested in woodworking at that point).
Thoughts?
That’s a good idea. I’m not sure of my skill level around that design yet but I may give it a go.
