Online at Harbor Freight, the price for a 36″ aluminum bar clamp has been 9.99 for as long as I can remember:

The 48″ ones are 15 bucks, and the 60 inch ones are 16 bucks. Same prices I’ve seen forever. What’s more, you can get online coupons just by doing a google search, and save a few bucks that way.
I wonder if prices vary by region, and you live in a more expensive area than I do?
The Harbor Freight near me sells two different styles of bar clamps. I assume the one Ed mentions is the more expensive one (I don’t see it on their site)
I’m going to have to run out there and get 2 more. Thanks, Ed!
just bought 8 of them yesterday. Paul talked about inserting plywood in the body of the extruded aluminum to prevent twisting. We’ll see how the stack up.
I’ve started having trouble with mine, which were bought a few years ago. The name on them is “Pittsburgh.” The problem is that when you turn the screw, the sliding part cocks over on the bar and stops moving, so you cannot tighten it further. It looks like only a couple do it so far. Of course, if it does it, this pulls up a little ding in the aluminum bar which then makes it more likely to happen next time.
Yeah, that seems to happen sometimes. I have been meaning to put a little oil on mine to see if it helps.
