Been very lucky today.
My mrs one a sewing machine on eBay.
We went in person to pick machine up.
Mrs was in conversation with lady of house and I was talking to the gentalman and mentioned I was into wood work. The man left for a minute and called me outside. Well there it was a Record vice which he said was about fifty years old and was just getting rusty. He was glad for me to have it.
I just could not believe my luck.
I thanked the man put sewing machine a vice in car and stayed and chat for half an hour. Then went on our way.Attachments:

So the moral is: There are advantages to shopping with the wife some times.

15 December 2013 at 6:36 pm #23933The vice on my bench is a Record about 28 years old but it the baby version very good little vice.
The vice given ti me today is the daddy.
The man was an apprentice at Armstrong-Vickers LTD an aeroplane manufacture now Retired but worked there all his life now it is British Aero space.
He got vices and benches when a prototype war aircraft he was working on was scrapped and everything having to do with project had to be sold off. He said he got a couple of benches and vices for £5.
I could of spent more time chatting away with the man very interesting indeed.
The moral is the Mrs still spends a lot of money lol Second hand Sewing machine £480

I must remember to tell every body I meet I am in to wood work just on the off chance they may have some hidden treasures they are looking to give away16 December 2013 at 2:42 pm #24004Congratulations you will like that vise clean her up and mount it, I have the same vise and love it. I put 3/4″ plywood ont he face’s and installed a piece of leather on the front vise. This is a solid vise and grips like no tomorrow.

16 December 2013 at 8:10 pm #24008I will clean vice up vice but when is the question. I have some leather and put it on jaw of vice.
Also I will have to modify my bench to accommodate Vice. Now I’m wishing I did not dovetail glue and screw Apron to bench. 😮Ken I am not that lucky. I’ve had a rough couple years Brother died, Mum just had op for cancer. My other brother bad problem with eye. My mrs Arthritis and heart problems and MD of the eyes. I went bankrupt problems with back and suffered with depression. Also now my poor dog has a big tumour in groin and leg and really has not long to go. Cannot wait for this year to end.
So on the whole think due a bit of luck.
Sorry for blurt.Sounds like you are overdue a change of luck Mark, hope this heralds a much better 2014 for you.

The big vices are heavy beasts to fit, so take care with your back…
All the best.
