What handles are people finding to be suitable for the tool chests Paul has shown us how to build? I’d prefer a brass handle (bail style), but am happy to learn of any that have been successful. I am unsure which size will bear the weight. We only have about 3/4″ to sink a screw unless the handle is placed very high and we intrude on the tool space with bolts (otherwise, we go into the drawer runs.
Ed, I haven’t made the chest, so I can’t give any direct input. But I just looked at the tool chest gallery and there might be some ideas there.
Also, I seem to recall that in Paul’s larger joiner’s tool chest that he might have doubled the material where a handle would be attached by the well-chosen placement of an interior batten, giving more material for screws to bite into.
I built the Tool Chest and have had the same questions about what type handle if any would be suitable. There are a couple of places close to me that make some cast iron handles that might look good on it. I’ll take some pictures next time I go there.
