Stunning, Joe. The half blind dovetails look great (excellent contrast in colors)! And the frame and panel lid, too! And the wood. Fantastic project, Joe.
26 August 2016 at 11:40 pm #139731Thanks. I have found that joints look better in pictures. Look close enough and there are a few problems. nothing that will compromise strength though.
The main wood is walnut, but I used poplar for the drawers. Walnut was getting too pricy.
Sine it took so long, you can see my skill increase when you compare different joints. The dovetails I did 10 months ago (back) are noticeably worse than the front.
It felt so good to finish it.

I’m building my joiners chest now and the first set of dovetails does not look like the most recent ones. Thankfully, it will be painted in the end. With the price of wood right now, I couldn’t just scrap the job and build new, so it’ll be a constant reminder of where I came from.

19 September 2016 at 2:59 am #140370I had the same kind of progression of skill, on the same project! Always takes a long time for me to finish a project with the spare time I have, like most of us I assume. Nice to watch one corner get better than the last as time goes on. Great job!
