I picked this Stanley 6 plane up at a flea market about a year ago for $20. It is in OK condition, but does need some work. It is mainly just dirty, and has some surface rust and pitting on it. I started to flatten the sole (it still needs work) but I don’t think it would take too long to get it to really good condition. I can’t tell you the age, but it does have wood handles and a brass depth adjuster that is still smooth to operate.
I already have a no5, and I don’t really need this. I was going to list it on Craigslist, but I wanted to give my fellow Seattle-ites first take here.
If you want to check it out in person, send me a private message. I am asking $20, but if you have something of equal value perhaps we can trade.
Since no one seems to be interested I am going to put this on Craigslist.
Jotato- Before you get rid of it, try something that may sound crazy….try it on your shooting board. I’ve found that the larger planes work really well. It’s just easier to get a good grip on them when they are on their sides on the shooting board compared to a #4 and somehow the extra weight seems to help.
Thanks for the tip, but I use my No5 on my shooting board. I just don’t see a big use for it, and would rather let someone else have it.
