Well, I finally plunked down some bucks for an electrician to add some outlets (on the ceiling) in my garage workshop. And plunked more for four 40 inch LED shop lights. Tomorrow will be the first full day of woodworking with decent light. I can’t wait! What a difference it makes already!!! Each of these lights puts out 4800 lumens in a bright daylight color. I think they had it at 5000K on the light color scale.
Previously, I had two 48″ single bulb fluorescent fixtures on the ceiling, in roughly the same position as the closer two fixtures in the photo. That meant that the area of my front vise (near the garage door) was fairly dark.
My 50-something year old eyes can use all the help they can get. I looked around for cheaper options, but I think I’ll be very happy that I spent the bucks.

When I bought my house I had a electrician install ( 4 ) 2 gang boxes 48″ off the floor. So no matter where I am at I have a electrical outlet, I also installed a 220 outlet for my air compressor. I need lights installed as well and will get that done eventually, my Paul Sellers style bench is located right in front my overhead door which gives me plenty of daytime light. But if I want to work “after hours” it is a challenge due to not enough lights. This will be my next renovation hopefully sometime this year.

25 April 2016 at 9:08 pm #136693@smassiesr – Steve, I’d love to open up the garage door to work in there. I do woodworking during the daylight hours and the garage door is south-facing. But we have an indoor cat who would just love to be an outdoor cat, so I have to keep the door shut.
An extra light for your nighttime woodworking would really be great. I am so stoked about my light situation now. Although I still have to use a little task light for some things like saw sharpening.
