Well my back is not playing fair at the moment.
Went into work had to come home. My job quite physical so I did not want to chance it. I am in a fair bit of pain.
I did go into shed and cut the two top rail Tenons for other end frame. I also marked up the Mortises and Tenons on the lower rail.
Probably have a little go at mortise and tenons tomorrow. Also I am Going to book an osteopath see if they can ease pain.
Forgot to take picture.22 May 2014 at 9:47 pm #57430I have Glued up I did not put mortises for turn buttons on lower rails as I quite like the look of lower part as it is so no shelf.
I used a maple for wedges in tenons.
I have some Mahogany for Top got to dig it out.Attachments:

I likethis project being small made it a lot harder to do.23 May 2014 at 11:35 pm #57495No home Eddy another reason for making small.
Probably another give away.23 May 2014 at 11:58 pm #57496i can see this at a craft fair or maybe its time to start thinking of a website, you need to buy more timber after all

24 May 2014 at 6:10 pm #57521Not sure the attached density table will help but may be of interest
To work out the planned weight of a piece of timber calculate the volume Length x Width x thickness = Volume Then x that by the g/cc for a given timber. Take measurements in CME.g Piece of timber
100 cm at 15cm x 2 cm thick = 3000 c/cm x Density of Mahogany (E.Inda) 0.54 = 1620 gram / 1,000 = 1.62Kg
You could then weigh your piece of timber and see if it is close
Meranti is not on this list but looking on the internet it says its density can be between 0.15g/cc to 0.885g/ccSo if weight is a measure of quality there are a number of different grades of Meranti

24 May 2014 at 9:21 pm #57527Greg I would think the legs are a little on the thin side for a stall might get away for a child.
Still going with a mahogany top may use hollows and rounds for a feature on edge.
Also fancy putting a maple inlayed band on top.
David little confused what you was trying to get across about density’s.
The top rails on this project are lightest so less dense pinkish in colour the legs I would say are quite bit more denser and more red in colour. The bottom rails a little more dense than the legs and more brown in colour.
I have used Meranti a fair bit in the past making door frames, casement windows, sub frames for double glazing facia/ barge boards, stair case paneling all sorts of stuff. -
