ken i dont believe that for a minute they are far simpler than they look (so far )
29 November 2013 at 12:40 pm #22601that being the case Ken i wonder if any of our british friends (because of postal costs) have the skill and ability to make these irons for a small cost maybe , saying that Paul does say it can be done with a file ,i just got rid of my old BBq knowing i wouldn’t use it again this year so i am going to wait till i have a couple to do before buying another one , otherwise i would most definitely make you one ,and i’m sure a man of your ability for finding things could find one lol
29 November 2013 at 7:26 pm #22654Well done Eddy I was thinking this project was going to become a video I was waiting till then to decide if I would hava a go. What type of wood are you using?
Best Regards
David29 November 2013 at 7:30 pm #22655thanks David i’m not sure what type of wood it is i’m still useing wood from an old table that was getting thrown out
I didn’t think of this until after I bought the o1 steel, but this would be an option for those who don’t want to make the plane iron, bit still want to make the plane.. Unfortunately, I can’t figure out how to cut and paste a link on my phone, but an ece scrub plane replacement blade should work.
Btw, nice work Eddy#
1 December 2013 at 11:45 pm #22771thanks Dan you got me thinking about irons so i did a bit of digging on the web and i came across the stanley 9 1/2 block plane which has a 40 mm blade the same size Paul advocates a replacement blade is only about £8 ,but it just so happens i have one of these planes which i inherited off my dad, this will give me an oppertunity to do more woodwork than metal work which suits me even though i’ve had more metalworking jobs than woodworking ones
4 December 2013 at 6:38 pm #23016this is how my new plane is coming along so far so good and it works, just shaping to do now and radius the iron which i will do with a file as i think the bench grinder will feel like i cheated as i didnt make my own iron i borrowed the iron out of my stanley 9 1/2 the picture also shows the table brace that was used to make it .

I may though have a go at making the plane

David i’m sure you wont be short of takers if you have no need for the stool once made maybe donate it to a charity or something im sure they’d love it .
