Oh Ken
is that one of those Stanley hard points I hate them with a passion.
If you are going to use a hard point get the Spear & Jackson.
B&Q sometimes do a deal on them two for £9.99
Any way Ken what fun are you up to.22 November 2013 at 12:02 am #21954Well done Ken. I like the ray flecks in those pieces.
What are building? Thanks guys. That was one of two pieces I found on top of a rubbish skip. They were no good to me as they were, but I thought if I ripped them in half, they would make a nice little box.
Yeah, Its one of those nasty hard point saws, and I hate them too. Saving my pennies to buy a rip and cross cut saw.
Even though I workout with the weights four days a week at the gym, yes my arms were tired when I got done.
Thanks again guys 😉
Hi Ken,
I re-saw quite a bit but use a course rip saw. I have 2 old Disstons and something else maybe a Sandvik? They are older than I am but I keep them sharp and they cut fairly fast. You probably just need a good rip saw. I have many old hand saws and the most expensive ones cost me $5.00. Around here (Oregon, USA) they don’t seem to know what they are worth. I’ve bought good ones that were sharp for $1.00 each!!! This is at a flea market. I don’t know if you have them or what you call a flea market, maybe a boot sale? Most of the people around here think that a saw needs to be electric to cut wood. When people see me using a handsaw they gather around like I’m putting on some historical re-enactment. It’s hilarious! I think that is when I need to start hawking my products. — Jim22 November 2013 at 2:55 am #21965Ken said, “I have never sharpened a saw,”
What!
Get an old saw and do it!
It scared me too. I must have watched Paul’s video 50 times before trying it. Finally jumped in and found it to be easier than keeping my chisels square. Now I just do it like its second nature.22 November 2013 at 3:24 am #21967Can’t twist your arm from here, so I thought maybe I could shame you into it. 😉
Seriously though, I’ve bought so many throw away saws over the years its pitiful. The sense of satisfaction I get every time I sharpen my saws is truly gratifying.
Now I want the same for you and every other hand tool wood worker.
Please do give it a go. 🙂22 November 2013 at 3:40 am #21969It really is far easier than it seems like it would be.
You’ll look back and wonder why you didn’t jump in sooner.
Keep me posted my friend.22 November 2013 at 4:38 am #21977Ken, I’m sure you’ll have no trouble. Watch paul’s vid and if anything you will wonder why you didn’t do it sooner. Rip saws are much simpler than crosscut saws, and its not hard to get a decent “bite” out of one. Pick up an old beater or two somewhere cheap and go at it, you might be surprised!
