Ken, I have a 8 point that I filed per Paul’s video for general purpose… a 10 point that I filed crosscut… and I just picked up a 5 point for heavy ripping. If you want a tenon saw, a 10-12 point is great filed using Paul’s method.
The crosscut filing seemed intimidating at first, but actually it’s not that much different… you just have to keep an angle in the file. It all makes sense once you get going.
Here’s the video I used to make my saw vise (a smaller version)… very easy.
Ken and Mark I am impressed with your re-sawing, a lot of effort but giving great results. I liked Chris’s idea of forming a grove around the board as a guide. That was a great site Barry on the saws I hope I can remember were it is if I need saw handle templates.
I just followed gauge line and you work from both sides. Just think of it as a big Tenon.
I am probably more at home with a hand saw then a backed saw.
I think My Saw will need a little tinkle with a file after cutting that board.
Thought this might be of interest, particularly if you’re restoring your own tools.
