Dose anyone else have problems with the depth stop looks as if their are some kind of tube inside that is supposed to expand and lock it in place ?? I can’t seem to get it to work it’s a nice plane light lots of cutters imperial and metric it’s perfect for cutting drawer rabbits ect any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!!!
17 January 2020 at 6:06 am #645216The 50C and the 44C have a short piece of nylon plastic tube that expands against a cone shaped part in the hole when you screw the knurled part. It should be a snug fit on the threaded hurled bit and fit snuggly in the hole without being tightened down.
If it is left tight, over time it will “remember “ the cone and won’t rebound or get tighter.
One fix you can try is reversing the plastic tube and/or boiling it for a couple minutes so the plastic becomes elastic again. Some people add a small washer on the end without the cone and cut a little of the nylon tube off to get fresh purchase. You can also try going to your local hardware store to find a nylon or silicone tube with the Right interior and exterior dimensions and cutting a piece to length. Neoprene washers from the plumbing dept. might work. This might take a bit of trial and error, but shouldn’t be expensive a nylon standoff might fit if you cut it to length.. If it were me, I’d go for silicone and cut it a bit long.
Once you find a system that works, make sure you loosen the stop for storage between projects.
Good luck.
