I like the title… 🙂
A few weeks ago my wife asked me IF i could built a cheap chest for a baby… WHAT!!!???…
“It’s for a co-worker that’s going to be grandmother” -She said. I took a deep breath and she laugh. (“The grandmother” in question is also a friend)After some thoughts I made a sketch and came up with 40 euros (just guessing) in wood and shellac. She liked and in the next day some co-workers came up with 36 Eur.
I should know better not to mess with the wife…
Went to buy wood 3 board 260/20/2cm and 1 board 260/10/2cm 24 Eur
200gr of “lemon shellac” “dark and cheap” 9 Eur. I’m in the budget.
And I get some practice for free!Warning: its a mix of the “6 board chest” and “Paul’s new pine/tool chest” designs
Progress 1 : First picture gluing the boards into panels!

by staggering I mean that you deliberately make sure the glue lines of the sides & front/back panels don’t run all around . If the glue would fail (unlikely but you can’t be sure) the box would break in two pieces. If you make sure the glue line isn’t exactly in the middle of the board, the lines won’t line up…
I assume you’ll be dovetailing the joints.
Diego
Hi Diego
Now I understand, lol!
Thanks for the input.
Yes its a dovetail chest.
I’m a little late on this because making the lid on the other chest is a bit longer then i anticipate… -
