Just finished the third of three step stools. The tops were made from 15/16″ pine from a table I found on the street. The legs of the two rectangular stools were made from 1 1/4″ curtain rod (round profile) that I got at a garage sale a few years ago and the legs of the oval stool had been legs of a coffee table someone was throwing out. They looked like some kind of light-colored mahogany. For the oval stool, I adjusted the location of the holes in the top so that there was enough wood to keep it strong.
Did I say I love using reclaimed wood?
Finished with three coats shellac and then wax. My thanks to Randy (@sidreilley) for the advice on sawing the tapers of the legs rather than planing. Those off-cuts really came in handy when clamping the partially shaped legs in the vise.
What a fun and relatively easy project.

Good use of junk, glad to see someone else picks up stuff. In our area the town picks up bulk junk once a month, I often find good wood, logs and funiture.

Cheers
