Tagged: tools used market
Hello fellow woodworkers,
I will be in Sheffield for the coming weekend and I am looking for some suggestions on places / markets / flea markets where one can buy new or used woodworking tools.
I am looking maintly for chisels, saws and planes.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Thomas
No knowledge on the second hand market, but for new tools Thomas Flinn & Co, and Robert Sorby come to mind.
The former offers Clifton hand planes, saws, and the Robert Sorby products. Robert Sorby makes chisels. While the planes are quite on par with the best North American products, and ready to be used “out ofthe box”, the other tools follow the British tradition of the customer having to do some finishing up – a bit surprising perhaps, as prices not that small…
Pleaant weekend

If you want to go to Thomas Flinn – and I would certainly if I had the opportunity – make sure to call and make an appointment first. There is no shop, they are just a factory.
BTW my Clifton 5 1/2 was “usable” out of the box, but a quick go on the stones made it much better. In fact I seem to recall they mention on their website that a final honing is required.
