Welcome! / Forums / Project Series / Breadboard-end Cutting Board / Zebra wood platter
I was at a local lumber store today and was intrigued by the thought of a zebrawood breadboard or serving platter made in the style of Paul’s project.
Cost would be high, but I think the end result may be worth it, got some great grain.. However I’ve read some problems with working it, specifically with planing. Because I would thickness plane by hand, I’m cautious, but suppose trying it is the only way to tell unless someone has had experience here?
They have various widths of 4/4 available.

never used zebra wood but if you had problems with planning you could turn to a cabinet scraper
Zebra wood…exotic. I saw this wood in my local lumber yard dense wood, people usually complain about unpleasant smell of the wood.I don’t think it’s heavy to plane width of the board but end grain its different animal.I just prepared small boards of African Mahogany 4/4 stock dimension to 3/4, width was fan ,reversed grain this is not big problem, end grain…on shooting board with #7, freshly sharpened blade, width of the board 12″. Lord, my hands screaming bench moving but that was fun. Beautiful wood just wandering how long is it take to prepare wood like that by hand for the big project.
