🙂 ahhh something so simple – I was thinking there was a much more complicated explanation but it makes sense.
Thanks all for the replies. I think it is definitely a set issue, the back is straight. I think I can feel a little bit more ‘tooth’ on the side it curves on. It ends up like a slight lover case j when cutting, or a slight banana shape. But at least its square one way. I will fettle it more tomorrow.

http://www.inthewoodshop.com/ShopMadeTools/BuildingaWoodenRouterPlane.html this is what I used as a guide. I just have a 1/2″ blade…its worked well for me. Cutting the mortise was the hardest part for me. If I ever make another, I might glue the front of the mouth on after and then level the bottom.
Turns out I just needed to deepen the hole for the eye bolt, to make it tighter! I have some finishing to do (sanding, oil) but it works great. Thanks for your input.
