Thanks all for the beautiful words.
Ed, I use two thimbers that were left from the construction of the balcony roof years ago. I use 2 clapms so they stay put. For the stops I use pegs when I plane bigger pieces so they wont wumble especialy when I use a scrub plane across the grain. Also when chiseling is usefull.
It evloved over the years depending on what I needed the most :). Its simple but does alot of the job untill I make a real table.Attachments:

The firewood piece I used for that plane was used after few months and it wasnt probably dry full. It was acting strange for a long time. I noticed it was the sole where the blade is laying got out of flatness later (convex).

The second plane from oak made from a firewood piece. You should try making one, nothing to loose and is a joy when u use your own tools. It was also a big practice. So you can only gain from it :).

Philipp, I am from Macedonia.
For the Elm Iam not 100 sure. I was also thinking its maple, but everyone I asked says its elm or ash or something else. The plane I made it few years ago, its from mulberry wood. You cant find handtools in Macedonia (only scrub planes, no smoothers or jacks) so I was forced to make my own. Here is the collection I made. Recently I got in touch with few people from Bulgaria and now its easier to find tools.
Marko
