Hey guys – thanks for the compliments. The wood is quarter sawn white oak. I figured I should try to be as authentic to Stickley as possible as that was the inspiration. Looking forward to planning another project.
10 October 2017 at 12:19 pm #331717Thanks for the input guys – I sanded the spots with a more aggressive grit and it seemed to work. I will definitely use distilled water in the future.
6 October 2017 at 5:13 pm #329828No – I discovered it this morning before heading out to work – I was curious if anyone else has ever experienced the same issue?
6 April 2017 at 7:47 pm #310928Thanks for the info – getting sick of using abrasive paper (even the good stuff with adhesive backing). I ordered the diamond plates today, and picked up the aluminum at a local supplier. Looks like the total cost for 3 stones will be $28 CDN.
5 April 2017 at 8:57 pm #310901Thanks for the input guys. I solicited opinion down at the local Lee Valley counter, and the outcome was similar. The tool was probably altered by a previous owner to use on a curved surface like rocking chair runner or ship etc… Now I have to decide whether to use it as is, or flatten it.
8 March 2017 at 2:53 pm #309902Thanks for the help guys. I will try one test piece with clear and one with acrylic paint as dye and choose the next step.
