Hi Terry , You may want to try Old Brown Glue ( Hide Glue ) . I have been using it for the last few years and it works well , particularly on tighter fitting joinery . Good luck !
17 April 2022 at 4:18 pm #756532May sound like a silly question but how do you test the glue ? I use Old Brown Glue and I am just getting ready for a glue – up … ( Not that I get paranoid just before I glue-up but … )

6 November 2020 at 3:38 pm #685186I use the Shellac/Lacquer thinner sold by Lee Valley . It is a blend of Ethanol and Isobutyl alcohol . This has worked well for me when using shellac including dissolving shellac from the brush .. good luck
11 October 2020 at 3:15 pm #681813I really like to keep two freshly sharpened planes on my Bench when preparing stock so I likely would keep both planes as they are . One set for more coarse flattening and the other for smoothing . I have a dedicated Lee Valley / Veritas Scrub plane which is a very simple and effective tool ( and relatively cheap ? ) for removing bulk material … Good Luck with your work !
