And another ‘Thumbs up’ for the Ashley Iles chisels. I find they are very well balanced and take and hold an edge well. I’ve used them on White oak, Ash, Cherry and Pine. I dealt with ‘TheBestThings.com’ and can say they are super to deal with. Probably the best price in the US. I hope this helps you in making a choice.

18 January 2019 at 2:57 am #554597Hello Jim, Yes it will seat 6. Two on each side and one on the ends. There’s not an abundance of elbow room, I think 66″ would be better. We had to settle on 60″ for our house.
I’m making the Sellers dining chairs from Ash as well with the center slat in the back from Paduak. Just for a little colour. The turn table in the pic is Ash and Paduak. The napkin holder is Ash.
Keep me posted on your table.

2 June 2017 at 4:13 am #312482Ed, Thanks for the links. I didn’t know such pretty wood exists. That monkeypod is striking.
Nope, don’t resemble Gates or his wallet. 🙂Yes I was thinking of Ash, Red Oak, or White oak, possibly quartersawn. I mentioned Danish oil because I have used it before and like the results. I just built twin Sofa tables with Cherry and like the Cherry alot as well.
Went to the where I’ve been buying wood to price out a couple choices. In Alberta, 5/4 X 4″-5″ Cherry will run me $9.60 BF. 5/4 X 4″-5″ White oak quartersawn cost $11.60 BF. These prices are very do-able.
I was wanting to confirm my thinking that the three woods I’ve picked, any one would make a fine table and chairs. Cherry is not out of the running, but sits in fourth place.

4 August 2016 at 5:23 am #139076Well, I may have fixed the problem. Fiddled around with it today. I bent the little spring tab to apply more pressure on the round pin. Made things worse. Slacked tab off to almost no pressure and it was whisper quiet but wouldn’t engage the threads properly when clamping. Removed pin and filed a smidge off the end, re-installed with spring tab putting pressure on it and it seems to work. Not whisper quiet but very acceptable and nice and smooth. Thanks for the replies fellas. Appreciate it.
30 March 2016 at 5:46 am #136104Thanks Wesley. My thinking on the top thickness is the same as yours. I plan on using the Jorgensen 41012 vise which is supposed to be 3 1/2″ deep. Thinking of 1″ thick faces on the jaws, maybe maple?, and making them 1/2″ to 3/4″ taller than vise top to flush up to bench top. I don’t know for sure but am guessing there won’t be too much strain or loss of strength right at the top of the jaws. Appreciate your comments.
I’m really excited about this woodworking, especially the way Mr. Sellers teaches everything. Why the heck didn’t somebody tell me about this 40 yrs ago?
