Shaping the medallion rounds to perfection with hand tools is quite a treat for Paul, even though he has done it all his working life. The joint connecting to the rounds is very unusual and Paul has personally never seen such a joint before. The uniqueness combines with the mortise and tenon joint to create a perfect harmony of strength, resistance, and longevity. There are small idiosyncrasies that make fitting the joint simple and progressive. Hidden details are always fun to do!

Or the one later around 24:40. “Oh would you look at that… I’m just showing off here.” Made me smile.
This video has been down for a bit and I’m right in the middle of laying out the dados for the top round. Can anybody tell me the length for these? I seem to recall two inches, but don’t know if that’s correct.
Hi Mike,

Two inches sound kind of right, but remember that the angle of the tenon shoulders (unspecified) depends on some of these measurements and are left to be worked out during the build depending on other choices made — Paul made that comment against a related query in another thread. So, if you have already cut the tenons on the bottom spokes, stick to whatever distances you used for the dados and tenons while determining that angle. Thanks. I have been working with a 5° angle on the bottom so the 2” should work. I did the trig last night and it seems to be close enough with a little bit of flex to make it.
I don’t know if this is the first time you used such an articulate music, at the end of the clip. Anyway, for what it’s worth, I just would like to leave you my feedback: it is very pleasant and relaxing… creating the right atmosphere when sometime I cannot sleep at night :-). No offense by the way, I enjoy looking at Paul’s videos very carefully during daytime and I have learnt really a lot…
