In this episode, Paul lays out the rails for cutting the tenons to the apron and lower rails. The proximity of the rails necessitates exactness in forming the tenons and the shoulders. Walking through the steps ensures your success, and your tenoning skills will be improved in making this project. As always, we are interested most in you developing confidence in your ability. Laying out techniques for tenons are generally the same or very similar and reinforcing the traditional techniques and practicing helps you to gain efficiency and skill. After layout comes tenon cutting and, Paul’s step-by-step approach will walk you through fitting the tenon into its mortise.
it mitter be better 😀
Hi Paul,
Thank you for explaining how using an inset for the cross pieces in the legs helps make it easier to manufacture because there is less need to plan the two mating parts flush. I had always heard of folks talking about how it adds shadow lines. I never thought of it from a practical consideration. That is a useful tip to know as I start to become more confident and design my own pieces.
Sincerely,
Joe
