Hanging doors is a systematic process that’s orderly, and the system never changes; think fit stile, then head, height, and width. Think penny gaps all round and then hinges to door then stile. So many patterns to hanging doors, and they are all contained in this succinct tutorial leading to not one perfect door fit but a pair. Following the traditional patterns Paul gives throughout this project will establish a working knowledge for the rest of your life. We do hope you all enjoy this one.
Here’s a little something for you! Can you notice what Paul has changed in this episode?
Thanks Paul. I’ve broken a few brass screws. Since then I’ve bought better hardware and have become more sensitive when screwing them in. I would love to hear if you have any simple solutions for removing the broken screw part. I think it would make a great video as well. Just a thought.
I think in the tool chest episode, where he installed the hardware, he give an explanation how to remove a broken brass screw. In short, drill it with the same bit you use to make your hole.
Good luck!
Removing broken grass screws is tricky, so I use a steel one first so that the threads are already formed in the wood when it’s time to put in the brass ones.
Thanks Paul. I noticed in the last few minutes of this overall video, when you were fitting the two doors together, you used a pencil in the center portions when they were over wide to mark something and then plane to something. I didn’t fully comprehend what you were doing. Could you please elaborate on this part?
Apparently he drew a pencil line to get an understanding of how oversized the doors are, then took equal amount off of each door.
Other than some changes to tool placement, at 26:03 Paul demonstrates a different method to square knife wall for the hinge. Thank you for various methods.
