David I think I needed to have a practise at this. Good learning curve.
Not like pine no give in this Ash.
I was hoping to get done straight off the saw.
I was not far off I was fat by a couple of thou here and there once you start pairing all goes a bit wrong. The dovetails look great! From my experience, what appear as slight gaps actually disappear when they are glued together and when a finish is applied. My only explanation would be the glue swells the fibers closing the gaps… Also, I think some oil based finishes will soak into the fibers even more…
Either way, I think you are on the right track!
Cheers!
15 October 2013 at 11:54 pm #20027Do not get me wrong not the worst tails I have ever done and on the whole they look alright.
This was just a practice I understand now that I have almost got to cut line out. See if my eyes can get me that close to line.23 October 2013 at 11:09 am #20271My back has gone again so I am off work again.
Contemplating wether to have a go at my box may take my mind off of pain.
I’m struggling to bend down my bench is quite high at 39″ and I am only 5′ 9″ so will not be bending too much.24 October 2013 at 6:17 pm #20346Thanks ken
My last joint went in without pairing and probably looks the best but one of the joints I have pushed knife wall back and ended up with a fair gap and I felt I took so much care. On the whole reasonably pleased just prove I need a lot more practise.
The lid I’m going to make a small framed raised panel. Should be fun.Attachments:

11 November 2013 at 10:13 pm #21272Thanks guys,
Got a fit in my head come home from work and had some dinner then went out in shed.
Now it’s nearly 10 o’clock.
Put the grooves in my frame work for my lid.
I suppose I got a bit inspired over the weekend I had to build a stud work wall at the office where I am based. Today I had to make a door frame and doing a couple of mortise and tenon joints put me in the right mood todo something on my project.Attachments:
