A Nubie here, but hhis is my favorite so far. On the topic of which side of the leather to strop on.
“…for those who just want to get on with the woodworking and not argue over a gnats whisker.”
Got to love it.
30 May 2016 at 9:06 pm #137506Every time I’m making a cross grain knife wall I hear Paul in my head saying “Gently with the first pass, then more heavily”
There are so, so many to choose from. I keep hoping that someone with time and editing software will one day make a video montage of “Paulness”.
One I just saw that nearly made me spit my tea out laughing:
(Finishing small projects with shellac)
While brushing shellac on a part of a stool he can’t see but we can…‘I can’t see what I’m doing there, but it looks great’.
Paul doesn’t even have to be able to see it. He just knows it looks great because he’s doing it.
I fell in love with Handtools the first time I used one. Then I heard this from Paul.
Drawer Making episode 3
By the time you’re done your setup,in thin stock with flat boards like this, it’s quite a lot of work really. “Plus your not doing this the machine does”.
In reality, it’s true, I can watch Paul over and over again and still amazed me every time, I fell asleep with some woodworker trying to cut a dovetail with a router and a jig.
A woodworker who works with his hands and handtools is a Craftsman/Artisan, while a woodworker who uses power tools is really a “driver”
I’m from the other side of the world. I think I watched almost all woodworking videos this internet age has to offer, but nothing like Paul teaching. He inspired people period. I told this to myself the other day, if I will spend my hard earned money to someone teaching me woodworking, it will be Paul Sellers.
26 January 2017 at 10:27 am #308724Same here, usually after I’ve just veered off course with my first pass or if the square just moved slightly.
EDIT: (In response to the hearing of Paul in your head saying ‘Lightly with the first pass……….)

1 February 2017 at 8:00 pm #308890(when talking that one could run to bandsaw instead of sawing with handsaw)
“But just think about exercises you’ll be missing…”14 March 2017 at 2:30 am #310143I was showing my 4 year old grandson how to file some scrap wood and I noticed after a while I’d said “like this” about twenty times – I’ve started talking like Paul, now all I have to do is master woodworking like Paul 🙂
I’m in the US and I have to say that tea is loads better than coffee.
as for a favorite PS quote, I think when he just randomly stops during his workbench build and just exclaims out of no where “This saw is 90 years old”
It made me laugh every time I heard it.
17 March 2017 at 8:21 pm #310266Paul and his “Relaxed Muscle” gotta be one of my favorites, goes to show there is a useful way to use almost any part of the body.
