Started sizing up some cherry for my table. Not the same as Paul’s.
Made a lot of shavings enjoyable hard work Planning from sawn timber. Cherry has come up like glass.
I have use winding sticks, Marking gauge, straight edge, square, Digital callipers,Hand saw 8 tpi, 5 1/2 Record jack and a Stanley premium low angle jack.
Got to plane up another 5 pieces for frame work and another 4 or 5 pieces for top.Dagenham, Essex, England

8 August 2013 at 12:21 am #16340Yes Eddy quite expensive I Bought 2 @ 8′ x 6″ x 1″ and 2 @ 8′ x 5″ x 1″ and came to £52 without vat.
At the moment I have cut it out for frame work, but for the top I will try and match it up so whiter wood next to one another. You know me I do like a bit of contrast.
I can not resist planing the thinnest of shavings just got in from shed playing on a bit of scrap. Use callipers measure shaving and got 1/2 a thou. 🙂Dagenham, Essex, England

,8 August 2013 at 3:51 pm #16356Absolutely *love* cherry. At this point, it may be my favorite wood. To me has the perfect combination of beauty of grain and color, as well as being a dream to work. Can’t wait to see the table!
8 August 2013 at 5:07 pm #16358I agree really lovely stuff.
It’s a bit harder than I thought it would be.
Oh we’ll Back to planning. :).Dagenham, Essex, England
8 August 2013 at 9:42 pm #16364Its taken me best part of two days to plane timber for frame work. I have still got the planks for top todo. I will start on frame work first when I get more time.

Mark, that’s looking really good.
I bet good amount of work’s gone into hand planing all of that stock 🙂
Like the others have said I think cherry is a beautiful wood. I’ve got a soft spot for the fruit woods, picked up a length of 4″ square apple a little while ago which I’m busy converting into legs for a shaker style side table. -
