To Tell you the truth it is no fun.
Keep having to move stuff to do something.
All the bag stuff is hers indoors. Bigger hoarder than me she has more hobby’s than I have had hot dinners she does hand and machine knitting, crochet, weaving, cross stitch, bead jewellery making, and patchwork quilts. If you think that bad she has three more little sheds full of stuff and the house is no better. Quite depressing at times but if I say something I only get it in the earhole. 🙁11 November 2013 at 3:00 am #21214My workspace. I’ve been following along with the masterclasses since early in the year. Very new to hand woodwoking. I’ve been busy this summer on weekends and some vacation time with : workbench, shooting board, sharpening holder, (my version?? of paul’s) clamp cart, dovetailed boxes, tool tote and a few other round the house projects. I feel like I’ve been trying to just get to the start line with finding all the right tools and building the bench etc. etc.
Mattp.s. Note the “Lefty” bench. I couldn’t imagine the vise on the other side. side topic from one of Paul’s blog post I caught weeks ago.

Well here’s my shop (on a good day when it’s reasonably tidy).
I took these photos last year and there’s a bit more gardening equipment in there now that my wife has somehow managed to sneak in. Time for a purge methinks.Attachments:

I generally keep it quite tidy as my children often come at the weekends. It’s also easier to control the mess!

The challenge here has been to find a wood work space while still being able to function as a two car garage. Yes the cars actually live in here. Complicating the matter somewhat are the other activities that also happen in the garage, such as vehicle repair, electronic development and metal machining. As a result and after a lot of reshuffling there is not much space left to put my wood work tools. I have been thinking of building a fall front joiners toolbox (as in the rough sketch) and placing it under the workbench.

17 November 2013 at 9:57 am #21604I see the Aldi Chisels have pride of place in your shop Martin, Could be the best £8 you spend
Yes David, at that price ‘it would have been rude not to’.
I still like my beat-up old Marples/Ward/Sorby chisels for finer work though.
I also found that the comparatively softer steel of the newer chisels tends to expose the lack of consistency in my sharpening technique. But even that is no bad thing if it helps me improve.
17 November 2013 at 11:29 am #21610We don’t have any Aldi stores in Northern Ireland, and I can’t seem to find their chisels online.
17 November 2013 at 4:06 pm #21635Some great looking workshops guys, great to see where you are all getting on with your projects (-:
I was amazed at some of the small work areas you all have posted. I feel blessed that I was able to build a what I considered a small shop until I saw some of these work spaces. Mine is 14ft X 16ft and has a large loft area. I’ll post some pictures later today.
