tomangle How do you like the moravian bench? I’m building one with a leg vise
I works well. I choose that style because I was planning on moving. I built it out of the cheapest 2″x4″ Lowes had. It is little on the light side and does move when doing some operations. If I was to do it again, I would use a heavier wood and make the legs thicker (they are 2 2″x4″s laminated).
I would like to do a leg vise on mine. I have a piece of beech leaning up against my wall that I am planning on using on my next bench.
One note, the wedges on mine are red oak then they do loosen easily when moving or when the humidity changes.
I live in a apartment so hence the desire to be able to break down. The wedges move when you want them or when you don’t want them? My leg stock will be a little smaller but some other things are thicker. Still not sure what I will use for the top. My cast iron vise is too small and (right now) I think I would prefer to have the vise flush to the apron.
I live in middle Tennessee and it can get really humid in the summer. When the humidity gets high then drops, the wedges loosen. My bench is in my garage which has no heat or AC. If yours is in a controlled environment, I would not expect any problems. But if it does a wack with a hammer tightens them back up. I just mentioned it because some people might think it is a problem.
