My daughter would like to build a chair like the one in the photo. The woodworking is straightforward, but we don’t know how to do the upholstery. Anyone know?

I am not an apolsterer but i would cut two pieces the size of the seatplus an inch all around. Then cut a strip that will go around the four corners.
Put everything inside out and sew a seam all the way around to your finished dimentions. Turn the cover right side out and . Get your foam, put it in a plastic sack and stuff it in.
Oops forgot to add a zipper. So you should not forget that part.

Paul has a video series on the foam on board type of upholstery, which is a good intro to it.

I’ve done the foam and board upholstery before, and it might work for the seat, but it looks like something different is needed for the back. Even for the seat, it seems a different technique was used here. It does look sewn, like Dean was suggesting.
