One way is to complete the joints on one side of the shelf, to two of the legs, assemble partailly with out the shelf, hold shelf in the assembled shelf area and pressing the completed side in against each leg and mark the exact size on each of the other joints…
If you are going to finish the night stand with 4 or 5 coats of a poly type finish, apply the finish to both sides of the shelf, in this way you can slow down the woods ability to take in moisture quickly.
12 September 2015 at 3:42 am #130337The inlay design is a merkaba symbol sacred geometry for the light body, two pyramids inverted into each other, actually a 3 dimensional star, Egyptian mainly. Yes, I did the inlay with a router guides and a chisel to do the points and I also had to build a shooting board for the angle of the inlay points, 120 degrees. The joinery is a bit complicated as you see the bottom shelf and upper apron supports are in a horizontal position so I just added some walnut dowels through the finished joint. Every time I look at it I am amazed.

you will pay a bit more for the UK version…. but all in all they both have a bevel and with the repeated use of one or the other accuracy is in your hands. I have tried my none bevel striking knife compared to my 10-049 and there is no difference, when striking a line a habit of technique is formed. Even with a none beveled edge I can strike a bad line its all about muscle memory and experience with the tool in your hand..

Additionally, I was watching one of his dovetail box videos and did notice the bend in the knife as he was striking a line. So, all in all I think I have a better understanding of this issue and I want to thank you all for commenting on this subject, which I thinks is critical to accuracy. thanks again
