I did contact the seller. He offered some monetary compensation. Looking at the photo I should have been able to catch the issue since the lever is 180 deg from where it should be. The seller was very apologetic and I would buy from them again. As with most ebay sellers he had no idea what he was selling. I did get teh vice for a very fair price (~ $150 less than the sale price of others have been watching) so I am not too upset. I can make a new lever but I would rather have an OEM handle. Again, if anyone comes across one I would gladly purchase it.

I’ve been using a set of imperial sized bevel edge chisels for a few years now and am very happy. I was not able to find the Aldi chisels when I started this hobby. I find they are easy to sharpen and hold an edge pretty well. I never had any rust issues with them. Even when I was moving from state to state and they were stored in an out building while I was finding a new home.
I don’t believe there is lead in the alloys used for the blades or the cast tools themselves. Most infant lead poisoning come from ingestion of old paint flakes (pre 1970’s in the US). The primary danger will be in old finishes.
Advice from one father to another: don’t stress out. If you are more relaxed they will be too. Enjoy every minute of fatherhood. It is absolutely magical.
