Thank you all for your advice! Think I’ll look for some light machine oil at the local hardware store. And I’ll try the candle method too 🙂
30 November 2014 at 11:16 pm #121664Hi. 3-in-1 oil isn’t available here in Norway, but reading through this thread it seems like vaseline oil could be an alternative. Anyone got any experience with this?
28 October 2014 at 6:48 pm #120274I like the idea with the magnet @delong1974 !
Glued it with silicone, but if I have to remove them in a while I will surely use your method next time! Thanks for the tip 🙂4 October 2014 at 9:50 am #118876After 6 weeks og waiting, my Diasharp stones arrived. Really pleased with them! One thing suppriesed me though: they are amazingly heavy. I think they are thicker than Eze lap. But I’m not planning to carry them much around, so I should be allright 🙂

Like the idea of making a very tight recess to hold them in place.23 July 2014 at 1:18 pm #59688Thanks for your advise Dave. I think I’ll try to get hold of 8″ stones with continous sharpening surface. Seems like a good idea to unmount the stones when needed. If I mount the short side close to the edge of the board, sharpening knives probably could be done from that side.

2 May 2014 at 7:39 am #56686Your post, and Pauls blog post about chissel restoration most certainly have been an eye opener for me. I have an old chissel with a smashed handel, loose blade and the bevel also would need some work. Up until now I have never seen the potensial in this old tool, but now, seeing the perfect result you got with your chissel, I realize that it can be a tool for life! Thank you 🙂
1 May 2014 at 5:32 pm #56669Thank you for your advice. I think I’ll just sharpen it for now, and maybe do some more work on it later. Like the idea of clamping it to another saw. Thanks for that Sandy!
